In their opening two games, Canada (2-0-0) and Latvia (5-2) engaged in a close contest with a 1-1 first-period score before Canada exploded for a 3-0 second period to grab a 4-1 advantage.

That obstacle served as a great motivator for Canada, who went on to outpace Slovakia 8-1 in their second game and 4-0 in the opening period on route to an 11-1 victory.

The 11 goals scored remain the only game with 10+ goals, and the margin of victory was the biggest in this tournament thus far.

Czechia (1-0-1) defeated Slovakia 5-4 in their opening match before falling to Finland 3-4 in a hard-fought match that might have seen them improve to 2-0-0 and tie Canada at the top of Group A standings.

Following this contest, Canada will play Finland, and Czechia will play its final game against last-place Latvia before the playoffs.
